The Ysgol y Deri Parent Teacher Association (PTA) presented a certificate of appreciation to the airport in recognition of its work placement programme for students from the specialist school in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Three students are currently gaining hands-on experience within the airport’s terminal operations teams, developing practical skills and building confidence.
Angela Hewitson, terminal manager at Cardiff Airport, accepted the certificate on behalf of the airport’s accessibility and special assistance team.
Ms Hewitson said: “Receiving this recognition from the parents of Ysgol y Deri means a great deal to all of us at Cardiff Airport, particularly our Special Assistance Team, who work so hard to ensure everyone feels welcome and supported when travelling through the airport.
“We’re absolutely delighted to currently have three fantastic students from the school working with our Site Support and Executive Lounge teams.
“They’ve made a wonderful impression already, and it’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they gain experience of working at the airport.
“This partnership is incredibly important to us.
“Being able to support opportunities that make a positive difference to students and their families is something we are very proud of, and we look forward to continuing to grow our relationship.”
Chris Britten, headteacher at Ysgol y Deri, thanked the airport for its ongoing support.
He said: “The school community is tremendously grateful to Cardiff Airport for giving our pupils an opportunity for meaningful work experience. The team at the airport are welcoming and enthusiastic and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them in the future.”
Cardiff Airport said it remains committed to working with schools and organisations to create inclusive and valuable opportunities for young people.
