Clive Arms Hotel redevelopment

The Clive Arms Hotel on John Street, Penarth, may be converted into three two-bedroom flats.

This would involve significant internal changes, including the replacement of most ground-floor and basement walls, and the main staircase.

The application follows continued viability challenges facing traditional pubs and aims to place the building into sustainable residential use.

Rear extension and loft conversion

A certificate of lawful development has been requested for a single-storey rear extension and dormer loft conversion at 17 Lavernock Road, Penarth.

The project also includes the removal of a wall to create an extended kitchen and living space, a ground-floor WC, a rooflight, and new uPVC windows.

Loft space will be used for storage and a bathroom.

Side and rear extension

Plans have been lodged for a single-storey side and rear extension at 14 Victoria Square, Penarth.

The scheme would expand the kitchen and family area, with the extension to be built partly over an existing rear structure and a section of pathway or grass.

To enhance the surrounding green infrastructure, new planting is proposed, including trailing jasmine in the rear garden and a cherry blossom tree in the front.

A bird box is also planned.

Non-material amendments

A non-material amendment application has been submitted for 137 Plymouth Road, Penarth, seeking approval to reduce the size of a roof extension, remove a Juliet balcony, and reduce front gable glazing.

These changes relate to an approved renovation project.

At The Block House on St Mary’s Well Bay Road in Swanbridge, Penarth, a planning condition relating to materials has been submitted for discharge as part of an approved scheme.

This involves extending the existing house, improving the site entrance, and converting an outbuilding known as the Generator Room for ancillary use.

Tree removal

Applications have been submitted to remove a leylandii fir at 2 Kymin Terrace, Penarth, described as overgrown and unsightly.

The tree’s roots are said to be affecting a boundary fence and lifting garden flagstones.

Another application has been submitted for the removal of a holly tree at 1 Church Road, which is leaning against a garage containing asbestos.

Access improvements on Beach Road

Proposals at 4 Beach Road, Penarth, include the installation of access doors from the garden room to the garden area, along with new stairs and modifications to existing conservatory steps.

The plans aim to improve movement within the property, with design details proposed to match the existing structure. There will also be new handrails.

Windsor Road extension

A rear and side single-storey extension with a new dormer window is proposed at 99 Windsor Road, Penarth.

The extension would provide a WC, office and expanded dining and family room, with rooflights to be installed.
