Couple plan Gavin and Stacey tribute with Uncle Bryn’s house

Jaxx Nelson and Tom Bodfish purchased the famous three-bedroom property in Barry, South Wales, for £210,000.

The house was featured in the much-loved TV comedy series as Uncle Bryn’s home and the setting for many memorable scenes from 2007 to 2010, with a special finale in 2024.

Ms Nelson and Mr Bodfish, who live in Banbury, plan to transform the property into a holiday cottage for fellow Gavin and Stacey fans to enjoy.

Ms Nelson said: “We’re huge fans of Gavin and Stacey and we’d just rewatched the series when I spotted the house on the market.

“It was kind of serendipitous that this was even happening.

“When we first went to view the property, we walked in and just went, ‘Oh my god, we’re in Uncle Bryn’s house, this is mad.’

“We thought: ‘This is where this happened, and this is where this happened.'”

Uncle Bryn, played by comedian Rob Brydon, was known for his lovable quirks, including ‘surfing the world wide web’ to give Gavin directions from Barry to Essex.

In another well-loved scene, he served burgers and played Subbuteo with Gavin’s friends before a night out in Cardiff.

The couple, who run a property business, celebrated their purchase in true Uncle Bryn style—with a few Cinzanos, his favourite drink.

Mr Bodfish said the house’s popularity brings some unique challenges.

He said: “The quirkiest thing for us about it is every time you open the curtains you’ve got 25 people outside taking photos of your house—that takes a lot of getting used to.

“We’ve already got to know people involved in Gavin and Stacey tours around Barry including Dave’s Coaches.

“We are planning on turning the house into a holiday let but it will be like staying at Uncle Bryn’s home.

“We want to create a space for the real fans to actually come, with little bits, little Easter eggs, for people to discover when they get there.”

The house’s previous owner, Lisa Edwards, was unaware of its TV fame when she bought it in 2006.

She found out when she saw Uncle Bryn showing Gavin on his computer during the series.
