Emergency services are currently at the scene of a police incident on the A4232 heading towards the M4. Drivers have been attempting to cool off outside their cars on what has been the hottest ever June day in Wales.
The A4232 southbound is closed at Culverhouse Cross. Traffic is queueing from the Leckwith Interchange to the A48 Culverhouse Cross and the road is expected to remain closed for some time.
The police have urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
A statement from South Wales Police said: “Emergency services are at the scene of a road traffic collision on the A4232 Cardiff. The southbound carriageway is closed at Culverhouse Cross. Please avoid the area and seek alternative routes.”
Councillor for Caerau Peter Bradbury wrote online: “There is currently a police incident on the A4232 between Leckwith and Culverhouse Cross. The road is currently closed at Leckwith whilst emergency services are in attendance.
“Further information when available. The road is expected to be closed for some time.”

The A4232 is still blocked in both directions. Police have closed the southbound carriageway at Culverhouse Cross and are diverting traffic off at the junction.
The earlier queues on the A4232 southbound have now eased slightly as police divert traffic off at the Culverhouse Cross junction due to the road closure.
Councillor for Rhiwbina Jayne Cowan has posted on Facebook:
The police have now closed the A4232 southbound at Culverhouse Cross and are diverting everything off at that junction.
As a result of the A4232 being blocked, some roads in Cardiff are busier than normal.
Lansdowne Road and Cowbridge Road West are particularly busy.

Traffic is queueing from the M4 junction 33 to Culverhouse Cross on the southbound carriageway.
On the northbound side traffic is queueing from the Leckwith Interchange to Culverhouse Cross.
Traffic Wales has told drivers to allow extra travel time due to the incident which is causing delays on the A4232.

A number of motorists have their tops off as temperatures in Cardiff remain at 31°C.
While the police incident is on the northbound side of the carriageway, heading towards the M4, the road is currently blocked in both directions.
A motorist who drove past moments after it happened said: “There are huge queues on A4232 heading towards M4, there’s been a crash, a van is blocking both lanes. There was police and fire there.”
Traffic monitoring system Inrix says there is queueing traffic from the Leckwith Interchange to Culverhouse Cross.
The A4232 is blocked in both directions as emergency services deal with an incident.
