Windows have been installed at the development of the old toilet block at Nell’s Point, offering a first glimpse of the incredible view across the bay that customers will be able to see.

The Morio Lounge, operated by bar chain Loungers, is due to open this spring, transforming the unoccupied old toilet block at Nell’s Point. Refurbishment work has been underway since the summer months to transform this disused space into something entirely new and fresh for the people of Barry.

These newly installed windows mark another major point for the development and refurbishment process, offering up stunning views of Whitmore Bay whilst showcasing the newly landscaped areas at the front of the building that will make the space even more enjoyable to visit.

This site on Barry Island is being transformed in partnership with developers Next Colour, who are behind the popular Oyster Wharf scheme in the Mumbles.

James Morse, Chief Executive Officer Next Colour, said: “We were keen to get the windows completed so we could showcase to everyone the views and the progress being made. Now they’re in, you can really see those wonderful views and they’re stunning.

“We’re on course for a mid-May opening, with the internal fit-out also now underway. It’s been a real team effort between ourselves at Next Colour, Loungers and the Council to bring this building back to life, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people through the doors.”

This development has been carefully considered to retain much of the building’s original structure, blending its heritage into the new and refreshed space.

Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “This is a really exciting stage in the development. It’s been fantastic to see how much of the original building has been preserved, and you can truly appreciate just how special this location is.

“The views across Whitmore Bay are incredible, and the landscaping at the front of the building lifts the entire area. This project shows just what can be achieved when we as a Council and our partners work together to regenerate key sites across the Vale for everyone to enjoy.”

The Morio Lounge is scheduled to open on Wednesday, May 13.
