Doctor tells women to stop wearing 1 hairstyle in car – it can cause brain injury

An emergency room doctor has warned women about the dangers of wearing a popular hairstyle in the car, revealing how it could cause serious injuries in a car crash

An emergency doctor has issued a stark warning to women who wear a popular hair accessory in the car, saying it could cause severe injuries in a crash.

Claw clips have become a go-to choice for many women, offering a quick and easy way to tie their hair back without hair bands or complicated styling. But while they may be convenient, they can also cause injury.

Dr Joe, who shares medical advice on Instagram, has highlighted the potential dangers of wearing them while driving or travelling as a passenger.

In footage posted on social media, he disclosed that he had extracted multiple claw clips from women’s heads following road accidents, describing how these accessories can become lodged beneath the scalp.

He said: “A little friendly neighbourhood PSA for women out there. Do you like to wear these? These claw-style hair clips? I’ve pulled several of these out of women’s heads after car accidents.

“These little plastic things can be a real pain in the butt to get out from underneath the scalp once they’re embedded.”

Dr Joe proceeded to caution that metal clips could present an even more significant risk, recalling a patient who sustained serious injuries following a crash.

He added: “Worse yet are the metal ones. I actually saw a patient once who had a metal hair clip in her head during a car accident. And afterwards, she had a skull fracture and a brain bleed.”

The doctor encouraged women to take precautions when travelling by car, suggesting that opting for an alternative hair accessory might be a safer choice.

He added: “So make sure you’re taking some precautions if you’re in a car with these hair clips. It might be a better idea to use a different type of hair tie.”
