Driver and dog die as Audi hits parked car and both burst into flames on A470

Police are appealing for witnesses after an Audi A5 struck a parked Peugeot 2008, causing both vehicles to catch fire

A driver and their dog died when an Audi smashed into a parked car and both vehicles caught fire.

The fatal crash happened at around 7.30pm on Saturday, October 3, on the A470 between Llyswen and Llansteffan in Powys when an Audi A5 was involved in a collision with a parked Peugeot 2008.

Both vehicles caught fire following the crash, police said.

The driver of the Audi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Their dog, which was travelling in the back seat, also died.

The driver’s next of kin have been informed.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said the force was appealing for witnesses to, or anyone with information, about the incident to come forward.

They said: “Police received a report of a single-vehicle collision involving an Audi A5 that was on fire and a parked Peugeot 2008 that also caught fire.

“Sadly the driver of the Audi A5 was pronounced deceased at the scene along with a dog present in the backseat.

“Their next of kin have been informed. The Peugeot was unoccupied.

“The road was closed for collision investigation to take place and reopened at around 5pm on Sunday, October 4.”
