The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed the full list of 86 musculoskeletal and arthritis conditions that qualify PIP claimants for £114 weekly payments.
The Government department has released the latest figures, detailing all of the qualifying conditions for which people are currently receiving the disability benefit. The data also reveals the number of claimants for each condition as of January 2026.
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a disability benefit awarded to those living with long-term physical or mental health conditions, disabilities, or learning difficulties, reports the Manchester Evening News.
It provides financial support to those who require assistance with day-to-day tasks, particularly people of State Pension age who wish to remain independent in their own homes. For money-saving tips, sign up to our Money newsletter here
PIP is not paid at a single flat rate. Rather, it is split into two components based on the extent to which a claimant’s condition impacts their independence.
The daily living component covers the additional costs of managing everyday tasks. The standard rate stands at £76.55 per week, while the enhanced rate provides £114.80.
The mobility component addresses the difficulties associated with getting around. The base rate for this component is £30.20, with a higher level of £80.10 available.
Those who qualify for the enhanced daily living rate alongside a portion of the mobility support could see their weekly total reach £187, £748 per month.
In the current edition of the PIP Handbook it states that the decision maker will determine a PIP award based on how the claimant’s health condition or disability affects their day-to-day life and capacity to live independently. It adds: “The length of award will be based upon each claimant’s individual circumstances.”
It’s worth noting that DWP guidance also indicates most claimants will undergo regular reviews of their award, “regardless of the length of the award”, to ensure “everyone continues to receive the most appropriate level of support”.
As of January 2026, there were 1,209,869 claimants for musculoskeletal and arthritis-related conditions, according to the most recent DWP figures.
