The UK was not involved in the strikes on Iran. But over recent days Iran has launched sustained attacks on countries across the region who did not attack them, including hitting hotels, airports and bases.
We will support the collective self-defence of our allies and our people in the region.

Locally, over the last few weeks I’ve held a busy surgery in Penarth, meeting constituents to talk about local, national and international issues, and to assist those seeking help.
And it was good to meet workers and management at 7 Steel in Tremorfa, which plays a crucial role in providing key steel products like rebar for major UK infrastructure projects.
In my ministerial role in Parliament, I made a statement on the Gibraltar Treaty, and spoke in the debate on Ukraine. Four years on from Russia’s full-scale, barbarous, and illegal invasion, the UK stands unwavering in our support for the Ukrainian people.
I reiterated this message in New York where – as the UK currently holds the presidency – I had the honour of chairing the UN Security Council and addressing the United Nations General Assembly.
On the same day we announced our largest package of Russia sanctions since the early months of the invasion, and new funding and support for Ukraine.
While in the US, I joined UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper MP to pay our respects at Arlington National Cemetery.
It was a moving moment for me personally, with a proud tradition of military service on both the UK and US sides of my own family.
