Family pay tribute to Kamran Aman after Barry knife attack

Kamran Aman had got back into his car after delivering shopping to his mum’s house on June 30 last year when he was attacked by a 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old Marcus Staniforth.

He died after being stabbed in the chest by Staniforth.

The boys, both of Llantwit Major, were each sentenced to life, with Staniforth serving a minimum of 17 years detention and the 16-year-old – who can’t be identified due to his age – serving at least 15 years.

During the sentencing hearing, Kamran’s wife Khaleela paid tribute to him.

“Kamran would always light up a room with his larger than life personality,” she said.

“He had such a big heart.

“He was so much more than just a husband. He was my best friend and my soul mate.

“Kamran was strongly devoted to his family.

“He could never do enough for his mum.

“He was her rock and now he has been taken away from her.

“Never in a million years did I think he would be a victim of an unprovoked attack where he would be stabbed outside his family home.

“Nothing will ever bring Kamran back to us.

“There is no sentence that will ever be enough for these two boys.”

Shenaz Aman, Kamran’s mother, said: “After this incident my whole world changed.

“His death has created a huge void in my life.

“I will never be able to live a normal life again.

“My whole family is terrified because of this incident.”

As he sentenced the defendants, Mr Justice Griffiths said: “Kamran Aman was a dutiful family man.

“He had just delivered some shopping to his mother’s house. He was in his car ready to go back to his partner and four-year-old child when you picked on him and killed him in the street.

“As well as ending his life, you ruined the lives of the family he left behind.

“We have heard dignified and moving statements from his wife and his mother. They explain the impact of the murder on Mr Aman’s little daughter and his brothers and his wider family too.

“I am sorry that no sentence I pass can bring him back to life. But it is clear that his memory will live on.

“I commend the police for their prompt attendance and arrest of both defendants on the street. I commend the medics who also arrived quickly and went to extraordinary lengths to try and revive Mr Aman and save his life at the scene.

“Above all, I express my profound and sincere condolences to Mr Aman’s family.”
