Fans fume at cost of AirBnb stay in Gavin and Stacey house

The humble terraced house became a slice of British TV history when it was featured in the hit comedy.

It was home to Rob Brydon’s fan favourite character Uncle Bryn – and was the spot where he “surfed the world wide web.”

The property also set the scene for Bryn hosting Gavin’s Essex mates before they headed out for a boozy night in Cardiff.

But to book the home for two nights this weekend on AirBnB will set you back up tp £752 – whereas a King Deulux Room at the Hilton in nearby Cardiff is just £329.

Show fans slammed the high price with one saying: “A weekend for £700? That’s a month of my rent r you joking?”

Another said: “Must have money to burn then.”

A third added: “Unless there’s a letter revealing what happened on that fishing trip inside then no thanks.”

It was put up for sale for £210,000 in the seaside resort of Barry – and was snapped up by TV fans Jaxx Nelson and Tom Bodfish.

The pair have transformed the spot into the ultimate Gavin and Stacey Airbnb – and named it “Gone Fishin'” in reference to Bryn’s famous fishing trip.

Jaxx said: “We spotted online that the house was up for sale and honestly weren’t sure we’d even get a viewing – it’s such a well-known property. But we did, and I think we were among the first through the door.

“Talking afterwards, we thought how much we’d love to stay ourselves for an ‘Uncle Bryn experience’ of sorts – and then figured, if we’d love it, there must be other fans who would too.

“So we put an offer in that same day and were slightly stunned when it got accepted. Beyond excited, obviously.

“We’re recreating Uncle Bryn’s house as fans will remember it from ‘Bryn’s Bachelor Paradise’ – Series 3, Episode 3, when the boys stay over. Gym and all, plus loads of little touches you’ll recognise from the show.

“We’ve even hidden a few Easter eggs that only the true super-fans will spot. We can’t wait to welcome guests through the door”

Lisa Marçais, General Manager UKI, Northern Europe & MEA at Airbnb, said: “Airbnb is home to truly unique stays that let guests step into places with a story, and it doesn’t get much more iconic than Uncle Bryn’s house.

“We’re delighted that Gavin & Stacey fans can now experience a little piece of TV history for themselves, while exploring Barry and the nearby locations that provided the backdrop to the much-loved series.”

Thousands of fans still flock to the steep road of Trinity Street in Barry, South Wales, to see the homes featured in the iconic sitcom.

The sale comes just months after show fan Lisa Molloy, 42, snapped up the home of fruity pensioner character Doris O’Neill across the street.

Lisa and husband Chris were the first people to view the property after travelling 130 miles from Tamworth, Staffordshire, to buy it within 48 hours.

They paid just over the asking price of £220,000 for the two-bedroom terrace – and even paid extra to keep the furniture from the show.
