Five rushed to hospital including two children after 15-vehicle horror crash on M73

The collision took place on the M73 motorway near Gartcosh in North Lanarkshire, east of Glasgow, shortly before 11.30pm on Sunday

Five individuals, including two children, have been hurriedly taken to hospital following a collision involving 15 vehicles.

The accident occurred on the M73 motorway near Gartcosh in North Lanarkshire, east of Glasgow, just before 11.30pm on Sunday. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched three fire engines and a heavy rescue unit to the scene, whilst the Scottish Ambulance Service sent six ambulances and two special operations response teams (SORT).

Two casualties were transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, whilst another two were taken to the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. One individual was conveyed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Three additional patients received treatment at the scene and were subsequently discharged. The current condition of those admitted to hospital remains unknown.

The northbound carriageway was shut between Junction 2 (Baillieston Interchange) and Junction 2A (Mollinsburn Interchange) as emergency services attended to the incident, which unfolded at Junction 2A (Gartcosh Interchange), reports the Mirror.

Vehicles were cleared from the scene by approximately 3am on Monday, with police calling for a sweeper to deal with the debris. The road was reopened shortly before 4am on Monday, as reported by Traffic Scotland.

Amey SW Trunk Roads confirmed the incident involved a “15-vehicle RTC” and advised motorists to steer clear of the location. Police Scotland has been approached for a statement.
