Gas pipes upgrade work in Llandough and Penarth to begin

by martyn jones

Wales & West Utilities will begin work in the Penlan Road area of Llandough and the Cornerwell Road area of Penarth from May 18. The project is scheduled to be completed during January, with teams set to start in both areas simultaneously.

The project is part of a larger investment plan in which more than £2.3 million will be spent over the next year to upgrade more than seven kilometres of gas pipes in the wider Penarth area.

Andrew Coleman of Wales & West Utilities, who is managing the project, said: “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community.”

The work has been planned in collaboration with the Vale of Glamorgan Council, which has approved the use of temporary traffic lights where needed.

Mr Coleman said: “This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”

Residents can find more information about the project at the Wales & West Utilities website or by calling the company’s customer service team on 0800 912 2999.
