Harvester and Toby Carvery in the centre of Carmarthen both closed their doors last week but it is only expected to be a temporary measure
Two restaurants in the heart of Carmarthen have been forced to close suddenly for at least a week. Harvester and Toby Carvery are both located within the same unit at the town’s St Catherine’s Walk shopping centre, with Harvester on the ground floor and Toby Carvery situated above on the first floor.
Both restaurants, which are owned by the same company, Mitchells & Butlers plc, closed their doors last Wednesday until further notice, with bosses apologising to customers for any inconvenience.
The nearby former Debenhams building, which forms part of the same structure in St Catherine’s Walk, has been subject to much scrutiny as it continues to undergo a costly revamp overseen by Carmarthenshire council to the tune of more than £40m.
During the redevelopment some previously unidentified structural issues were found, with new wall facades being built and wall tiles being inserted. You can read much more about the former Debenhams building here.
The issues faced by the Harvester and Toby Carvery unit are not connected, it has been confirmed. An electrical issue has been identified within the unit and Mitchells & Butlers have taken the decision to close both restaurants until it is resolved.
It is understood there is no long-term concern over the future of either restaurant and there is hope that both can reopen by as early as the middle of next week.
A spokeswoman for Mitchells & Butlers said: “We’re really disappointed to advise our guests that due to an electrical issue affecting our unit within St Catherines Walk we’re unable to operate our Harvester and Toby Carvery restaurants.
“We very much hope this will be resolved next week and we’ll be back serving guests in Carmarthen but we apologise to any guests that have been unable to visit us over the last few days.”
