Megan Gardiner, from Barry, died in June 2022 at the age of 25.
She was 17 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, which was caused by Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).
An inquest is due to take place later this month, from April 20 to 24, at Pontypridd Coroners Court.
Ms Gardiner’s family has raised concerns about her epilepsy care before and during pregnancy, including questions about why her medication was not optimised and why she was not given sodium valproate.
They also want to know what risk discussions took place with her about SUDEP and whether she was given enough information to make informed decisions about her care.
Her first seizure occurred two days after her 13th birthday, followed by a second two weeks later.
She continued experiencing seizures over the years, and despite being prescribed multiple medications, none proved effective.
The inquest will examine the care of pregnant women with epilepsy.
This is the first inquest in Wales to look at the significance of SUDEP risk discussions in epilepsy care.
SUDEP Action has supported the family since 2022.
Jane Hanna, SUDEP Action Director of Policy & Influencing, said: “MHRA policy and their messaging around use of Sodium Valproate only focuses on risks to the unborn children – either real or hypothetical – not the mother.
“The lives of women are therefore being compromised for the sake of a possible future child.”
