This was among various pieces of information discussed at the Vibrant Culture Committee meeting, held on Monday, April 13, 2026.

Updates were provided on different initiatives, including the Barry Youth Council’s efforts to raise £306 for Cardiff Dogs Home.

The Engagement & Events Officer confirmed a maximum of 7 members are currently part of the youth council and that they are looking at doing a recruitment drive in the new year.

The Head of Community Services & Facilities updated members on Barry Town Council’s Expression of Interest in Barry becoming the UK Town of Culture 2028.

Councillor Brooks said the report was an interesting read and it captured the essence of the town.

A look back at the two-day St David’s Day event showed a growing success.

Councillor Brooks said the event is growing year by year.

The event also recorded the highest number of participants in its “Daffodil Dash.”

The meeting also considered grant funding for the 2026 Barry Pride event, scheduled for June 6, although details remain confidential.

Similarly, funding for the upcoming 2026 and 2027 Cadstock event was also considered, due to the confidential nature of the item.

The new Cadstock Committee have been working to widen the music genres offered at the event and has offered opportunities for new, and young local artists to perform at the event.

Finally, members were provided with a summary of the budget monitoring report indicating actual and committed expenditure up to the end of month 11 in the 2025/26 financial year.
