Rookwood Sound Radio, based at Llandough Hospital and serving Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, was honoured at the annual Hospital Broadcasting Association’s awards in Bolton, going up against stations from across the UK.
Marking its 39th year of operation, the volunteer-run station celebrated winning four awards.
The team bagged the prestigious gold in the Best Speech Package category.
This was for a programme about dealing with infant death, broadcast during Bereavement Week.
The programme was the work of station CEO Stephen Allen, and John Bingham.
The station’s talent further shone with three bronze awards acknowledging merit in different areas.
This included the Best Newcomer category for James Ellacott, the presenter of The Super Smooth Radio Show on Sundays.
Mr Allen, alongside Debra Brown, won bronze in the Best Multiple Presenters category.
Their collaborative work includes the Flagship Show, which airs weekly on Wednesday afternoons.
Long-serving station engineer John Bingham was recognised with the Unsung Hero award for his commitment and hard work, ensuring the station runs smoothly 24 hours a day.
In the presenter categories, Wesley Prichard and Leslie Jennings made it into the top five for Best Male and Female Presenter respectively.
During the event, the station was commended for the “dedication and amazing hard work” of John Bingham, who keeps the station broadcasting round the clock.
The awards were announced at the Hospital Broadcasting Association’s annual awards.
The top five nomination categories acknowledged the exceptional presenting skills of Wesley Prichard and Leslie Jennings.
