THE LEMON TWIGS
Look For Your Mind! (Captured Tracks)
Though its mood is expressly late 1960s, in line with previous offerings from New York guitar group The Lemon Twigs, the content of Look For Your Mind! remains firmly rooted in 2026. Lyrics about paranoia, insecurity, and technological take-over are, in true Twigs fashion, comfortably buried beneath a jangly, psychedelic-pop-rock guise.
The influence of the Beach Boys and the Beatles shines at the forefront, but the Twigs here stretch to the more modern sensibilities of Todd Rundgren and Big Star. The likes of Gather Round recall older albums Songs For The General Public and Do Hollywood, as ballads (Joy) and more powerful and angry tracks (Bring You Down, the title track) again demonstrate a more expansive, confident sense of self.
Look For Your Mind! feels far more expansive, in terms of both genre and recording, likely the result of having touring band members make their studio debut. It remains a delicate, home-made album, yet is also their most cohesive attempt at channelling their bold live sound in long-player form.
