It will run intermittently until the middle of March

A junction of the M4 in Neath Port Talbot is set to be intermittently closed over the coming month while works are carried out.

A public notice says Welsh ministers made an order under section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act for works on or near the M4 motorway between junction 41 and junction 38.

It will see a “temporary prohibition of vehicles” along the length of the eastbound exit slip road of the motorway at junction 40, Tai-bach Interchange, that extends from the eastbound main carriageway of the motorway to where it connects with the circulatory carriageway of Tan y Groes roundabout.

The notice said: “The alternative route for eastbound traffic wishing to leave the motorway at junction 40 is to proceed to junction 38 to exit and then follow the direction signs to rejoin the westbound carriageway of the motorway at junction 39 and proceed to junction 40 to exit via the westbound off slip road.”

It added: “The temporary prohibition and restriction, which will be signed accordingly, are expected to come into force at 8pm on February 23, 2026, and operate intermittently until 11.59pm hours on March 16, 2026, or until the temporary traffic signs are permanently removed.

“Although the prder is only expected to operate during the times and dates specified above it will remain valid for a maximum period of 18 months as a contingency should the work need to be rescheduled or consequential or other work is required.

“Advance notice of any changes to times and dates will be displayed before any rescheduled work.”

The order will also impose a 40mph speed limit on this section of the eastbound carriageway near the exit at junction 40.
