
There are a number of train cancellations across Wales on Saturday due to severe weather, Transport for Wales has said.
The latest heatwave to hit the nation is causing widespread disruption across the Welsh rail network today, with Transport for Wales cancelling services on several major routes after extreme temperatures left it with a shortage of trains.
The operator says the high temperatures have reduced the number of trains available to run while engineering teams work to ensure onboard air conditioning systems are fully operational.
All Transport for Wales services between Newport and Ebbw Vale Town have been cancelled in both directions for the rest of Saturday. This disruption, which began in the early hours of the morning, is expected to continue for the rest of the day.
Transport for Wales says extreme heat has reduced the number of trains available to operate between Pye Corner and Ebbw Vale Town.
While the Newport route is closed, trains between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale Town continue to run, with passengers advised to travel via Cardiff and Newport where possible. Local Stagecoach and Newport Bus services are also accepting rail tickets on a number of routes.
All Transport for Wales trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham International are being cancelled until 8pm, with services instead starting and terminating at Wolverhampton.
Passengers travelling towards Birmingham are being told to use CrossCountry and Avanti West Coast services at no extra cost.
In west Wales, there will be no trains at all between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth for the remainder of Saturday. Replacement travel is available on Lloyds Coaches’ T2 and T28 bus services.
Passengers travelling between Chester and Wrexham General are being warned to expect cancellations throughout the day.
