by Martyn Jones

‘Vital work’ is being carried out on the railway lines meaning bus replacement services are in operation

Engineering work is taking place on the train line between Cardiff and Port Talbot on Sunday. It means no trains are running between Cardiff Central and Port Talbot Parkway.

Great Western Railway (GWR) and Transport for Wales (TfW) services are affected.

It has been described as “vital work” to maintain the “continued safe and reliable running of train services for years to come”. Never miss a Cardiff story by signing up to our daily newsletter here.

A spokesman for National Rail said: “If you are travelling between these stations, or between Cardiff Central and Swansea, you will need to complete your journey using provided rail replacement buses.

“If you are travelling with GWR there will be buses in operation between Cardiff Central and Swansea.

“If you are travelling to or from Bridgend, Port Talbot Parkway, or Neath you’ll need to use the rail replacement buses provided by TfW.

“If you’re travelling with TfW there will be buses in operation between Cardiff Central and Maesteg via Pontyclun, and between Cardiff Central and Port Talbot Parkway via Pontyclun, and also between Rhoose Cardiff International Airport and Bridgend.

“In addition to this, before 12.30pm, there will be rail replacement buses in operation between Cardiff Central and Penarth and between Cardiff Central and Barry Island.

“There will be no trains via Fairwater and if you are travelling to or from the station you can use your ticket at no extra cost on Cardiff Bus services.”
