Officers from South Wales Police were called to the collision shortly after 5pm on Sunday, March 9.
The incident involved two cars on Five Mile Lane, a key route connecting Barry with the A48.
Emergency services attended the scene and the road was closed in both directions for a period, with motorists advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
Traffic built up along the route, with congestion reported stretching back towards Amelia Trust Farm.
Police have now confirmed that a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving following the crash.
He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “Police were called just after 5pm yesterday (March 9) to a collision between two cars in Five Mile Lane, Barry.
“A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving; he has been released under investigation. No life-changing or life-threatening injuries were reported.”
Eyewitnesses at the scene described significant damage to one of the vehicles, with one person saying the car appeared to be “written off”.
The road has since reopened.
