Man dies at scene of crash on mountain road in Tredegar

The road remains closed at this time while police investigate the circumstances of the crash, and drivers are advised to find alternative routes

A man has died after a crash on a mountain road near Tredegar in the early hours of Wednesday morning, May 6.

Officers from Gwent Police were called alongside paramedics to Derlwyn Access Road, Tredegar, at around 5.35am, following reports of a crash involving one car. The driver, a 34-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

The road over the mountain from Charles Street in Abertysswg to the B4256 at Tredegar remains closed while crash investigation work is conducted.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes for their journeys.

A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “We received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision on Derlwyn Access Road, Tredegar, at around 5.35am on Wednesday, May 6.

“The driver, a 34-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene; his family have been informed.

“The road remains closed at this time.”
