Samuel Camilleri, 48, of no fixed abode, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court charged with theft from another person.
It was alleged that Camilleri stole £145 in cash from a woman in Barry on February 20 last year.
He appeared in the dock on February 26 and pleaded guilty.
The court heard the defendant was currently in custody for other matters.
Camilleri was jailed for 12 weeks, and he was ordered to pay the victim £145 in compensation.
