Stacey Attard’s 17-year-old son, Luke, was attacked in Barry Island while enjoying a day out at the beach and funfair.
He was left with such serious injuries that he later required a leg amputation.
Ms Attard said: “My son was only 17 years old when he was stabbed from behind in Barry Island.
“He didn’t deserve this. He went to a funfair and the beach on a hot summer day, surrounded by thousands of people. How could something so tragic happen in broad daylight?”.
Ms Attard explained that like many parents, she was worried about her child being out and about and described how “while [she] was trying to protect her son from becoming a victim of knife crime, [her] 17-year-old became one”.

He was stabbed in the back of his leg and was airlifted to hospital, where he underwent multiple surgeries and blood transfusions.
Despite intensive medical treatment, doctors were unable to save his leg.
She said: “As a result of the injuries he suffered, my son lost his leg At just 17 years old, his life was changed forever.
“The physical and emotional trauma he has endured is unimaginable, and our family continues to live with the devastating impact every single day.
“No parent should have to watch their child fight for their life No family should have to experience this kind of heartbreak.
“I would never wish this pain on anyone”.
Ms Attard wants to do all that she can to raise awareness of knife crime and push for stronger action against those who carry knives.
A GoFundMe page has now been set up by Luke’s cousin, Nicole, to help support his recovery and raise awareness.
Nicole said the funds raised would go towards specialist equipment, rehabilitation costs, travel to medical appointments, and mobility aids to support Luke in his recovery.
Ms Attard said: “If sharing our experience helps save even one family from going through this nightmare, then it is worth it”.
Idris Ahmed, from Riverside, Cardiff, has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of a knife following the incident on May 25 and appeared in Cardiff Magistrates court earlier this month.
