One cannot imagine what that would do to your body, climbing for that length of time. My son recently went to Italy, and part of the holiday was to climb Mount Vesuvius; his climb was made somewhat easier as a coach took the party so far, then they climbed to the top. The one thing they could not allow for was the weather and as he was ascending to the top it was quite foggy and misty, but this did not deter the climbers. As they reached the top, the mist had cleared away, and the view was absolutely spectacular.
It would have been so easy to be disheartened along the way. The pathway was rough; they weren’t sure how far they would be able to see. It wasn’t ideal weather, but because they persevered, they were rewarded when they reached the summit. What you do need in this situation is a good guide, one who knows the pathway, and who is able to guide you every step of the way, keeping you safe from all harm and danger.
The Christian life can be viewed as climbing a mountain; it is a metaphor for the journey of faith, representing a strenuous, intentional ascent toward spiritual maturity and closer union with God and seeking God’s guidance. While the Christian path is challenging, God has promised to be with us as our guide and our provider, and as we take this journey God teaches us things along the way, things about ourselves and things of Him, how we need to rely on and trust in Him.
When climbing a mountain, you have to take one step at a time, you cannot run ahead, so too is our walk with God we are to walk in step with Him. Abraham, Moses and Elijah are just a few in the Bible that met God upon the mountain and Jesus went up into the mountain to pray to His heavenly Father. Whatever mountain we face, Jesus is the best guide and will direct our steps when we trust in Him.
Psalm 121 v 1 I lift my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the make of heaven and earth.”
