Kelly Brown, who works as a memory link worker with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, is proud to share her workplace with her three daughters – Hannah, Laura and Lucy – all based at the University Hospital of Wales.
Together, they represent four generations of dedication to nursing and patient care.
Kelly began her NHS career more than 20 years ago, spending 16 years as a health care support worker before specialising in dementia support.
In her current role, she helps patients and families navigate life with cognitive impairment.
“Working in the same organisation as my daughters makes me incredibly proud,” she said.
“Working here isn’t just a job – it’s something that means a great deal to our family.
“Caring for others has always been at the heart of what we do, and I feel privileged to continue doing that every day.”
Her eldest daughter Hannah has worked in the gynaecology unit for 12 years, supporting women through sensitive and sometimes difficult experiences.
She was named a Health Hero in 2025 for her dedication to providing compassionate care to emergency gynaecology patients.
Laura also began as a health care support worker before becoming a patient flow co‑ordinator in the emergency unit, managing the complex movement of patients across departments to ensure timely treatment.
The youngest, Lucy, started her journey in the neonatal intensive care unit seven years ago before qualifying as a nurse, caring for premature and critically ill babies.
Their passion for healthcare was inspired by Kelly’s late mother, Gloria, who worked as a nurse at the former miner’s hospital in Caerphilly.
“Her kindness, dedication and the stories shared about her have continued to inspire our family,” Kelly said.
“I think it’s fair to say nursing runs in our blood.”
Laura added: “I’m so proud of the incredible women in my family.”
