The Games Master, by Maesteg writer Paul Wines, will be released at the Barry Card and Collector Con and published by Candy Jar Books.
The event will take place at the Barry Memo Arts Centre on May 16 and 17.
Mr Wines is focused on reaching ‘reluctant readers’ with fast-paced, illustrated historical adventures.
He said: “If a child says they hate reading, I don’t accept it.
“What they usually mean is they haven’t found the right way in yet.
“Once they do, everything changes.”
His new novel features Lucy Wilson, a long-running character in a series of more than 30 books.
Lucy, who lives in Ogmore-by-Sea, and her friend Hobo become involved in a mystery at Comic Con.
Barry Card and Collector Con, also known as B3C, is one of the region’s leading pop culture events. It has previously featured guests such as Paul McGann, Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, Chris Barrie, Hattie Hayridge, and Norman Lovett.
The Games Master will be available for purchase through the Candy Jar Books website after the event.
Mr Wines has also recently released Wild Hair: The Storyteller, a graphic novel aimed at young readers.
