Saara El-Arifi: Cleopatra

Award-winning author Saara El-Arifi will visit Penarth Pier Pavilion to discuss her new novel ‘Cleopatra’, described by R.F. Kuang as ‘enchanting, smart, and subversive’. She will be visiting for her talk on Thursday, March 19 at 7.30pm.

Her ground-breaking book retells the story of Cleopatra, showing her on her own terms, and tickets include options for a signed copy.

Tickets cost £25 which will include a signed hardback copy of the book. There are £12 event only tickets, and £5 student and inclusive tickets.

Art History Talk – The Birth of Impressionism and the Art of Modern Life

Explore the origins of Impressionism and what it meant to paint modern life in 19th-century Paris at this talk. Learn about trailblazers like Monet and Degas, then stay afterwards for tea and cake in the Pavilion’s ‘beautiful Gallery’.

The talk, which takes place on Tuesday, March 24 at 2pm, will also discuss the controversies of impressionism and what makes it modern. Tickets cost £15.95.

Singing and Social Groups for Older Adults

With Music in Mind’s Penarth Group hosts informal and inclusive singing sessions at St. Augustine’s Parish Hall. Open to older adults and their carers, sessions offer a friendly atmosphere and the first visit is free. Remember to book in advance. Wednesday, March 25, 10am–12pm. £5 (carers free).

Sessions are held every Wednesday except for the second Wednesday of the month. 

Othello

Catch a filmed performance of Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ at the Paget Rooms, on Thursday, March 26. It features an all-star cast including David Harewood, Toby Jones, and Vinette Robinson.

This ‘electrifying star-studded’ production, directed by Tony Award-winner Tom Morris with music by PJ Harvey, promises a ‘compelling’ and powerful retelling of the classic tragedy. It will be shown at 7pm. Tickets cost £10.
