Home by James Sommerin was recently featured by Palates & Miles, a considered edit of hotels, restaurants, bars and global escapes.
The review said guests are immersed in the workings of the restaurant from arrival until the final moments and called this ‘undoubtedly’ one of the restaurant’s strongest points.
A spokesperson for Palates & Miles said: “Home by James Sommerin, located in the upmarket seaside town of Penarth, south of Cardiff, offers a truly unique dining experience.

“The surprise dinner menu, served over either five or eight courses, offers an evening of anticipation, flair and style.”
The restaurant is owned and run by chef James Sommerin and his family.
Mr Sommerin said: “When we started the the long process of the design of the restaurant, it always came back to one thing, it was all about us, as a family.
“Lou, myself and our girls, Georgia, Angharad and Elin.
“Deciding upon a name, we struggled, we just could not come up with a name that fitted what we were trying to achieve.
“We knew however we wanted to show people us, and the love we have for one another.”
He said that his wife Lou came up with Home as that’s the thing that comes to mind when you think of love and family.
Mr Sommerin said: “The Collins definition of a spiritual home starts with, ‘Your spiritual home is the place where you feel that you belong.’

“And this is certainly where we belong as a family.
“We want our guests to feel comfortable and relaxed as soon as they walk through the door, even in our Michelin Star restaurant.”
He aims to create an air of mystery, saying: “We want people to wonder what lies behind the curtains and we also want our guests to feel safe, relaxed and at home when they enter.
“We want you to feel like you can leave all your troubles at the front door and escape for a few hours, let us look after you.”
