The lifeboat station will celebrate its anniversary on Monday, March 4, with a series of events in Penarth.

The RNLI was established in March 1824 and their lifeboats have saved over 143,500 lives.

At 2.45 pm, in honour of the past volunteers, the crew will haul both the D-Class and Atlantic 85 B-Class boats through the town centre. This is a tribute to the times when the lifeboats were hauled by horses.

Nicholas White, RNLI Volunteer said: “We are remembering … Our volunteers, who we are so grateful to, for giving their time and commitment over the past 200 years.

“Our generous supporters – everything we have achieved has been made possible thanks to their generosity.

“We are celebrating … The remarkable and unique organisation that is the RNLI – an emergency service funded by charitable donations.”

In the evening, there will be a celebration at Penarth Pier. Long service awards will be presented, followed by an auction of sought-after RNLI memorabilia. The event will conclude with some inspiring words for future supporters.

The charity is reflecting on its life-saving history, which has been made possible by generous charitable donations.

The RNLI is committed to welcoming future lifesavers and supporters who will help the charity achieve its mission of saving every person in need.

Mr White added: “The volunteering ethos which is at the heart of everything we do – our crew members, fundraisers and other vital volunteers give their valuable time to ensure we can carry on saving lives.”

RNLI encourage businesses and residents in Penarth to attend the celebrations to support the charity as they mark their 200th anniversary of saving lives.
