At the online council meeting on March 19, members expressed their wish for this issue to be brought to the attention of the police inspector.
The meeting was attended by councillors E. Richards, I. Buckley, R. Cook, R. Cox, E. Penn, M. Rabaiotti, G. Roberts, L. Rochefort, N. Thomas, Z. Weaver, and M. Wilson, with apologies from councillors R. Birch, M. Cuddy, and E. Evans, as well as South Wales Police.
The council also discussed the need for a more detailed breakdown of crime categories, particularly theft.
Penarth Youth Action (PYA) provided an update on its activities, noting some obstruction in its work with school safety.
The council advised that it would write to the relevant schools if PYA provided more information and context.
The council also discussed public transport, with councillor R. Cox suggesting a service to Culverhouse Cross and changes to the 304 service during off-peak periods to go through Penarth.
Councillor M. Wilson raised concerns about funding amounts and sources, route responsibilities, and timing issues already affecting the 304 service.
The council acknowledged the complexity of increasing public transport usage.
The council resolved to accept the membership of One Voice Wales for 2026/27 and authorised the town clerk to pay the subscription fee.
Councillors also noted the final version of the annual remuneration report for 2026/27.
The council granted in full the financial assistance grant applications in appendices C and D and agreed to ringfence any unspent financial assistance grant funds at the end of the 2025-26 financial year for future applications.
The town mayor advised of her recent planting of a covid-19 memorial tree and wished to formally record her thanks to public service workers.
