Enquiries into the circumstances leading up to their death are ongoing

A person has died on the tracks of a Welsh railway line. British Transport Police has said it was called to reports of a casualty near Porthkerry Viaduct at 7.15am on Monday morning.

Officers attended the scene together with paramedics, but the person was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

National Rail said the line had been closed between Bridgend and Barry. In the meantime, buses are replacing trains between these stations. You can read more on the disruption here.

A statement from British Transport Police read: “Officers were called around 7.15am today (March 16) to reports of a casualty on the tracks near Porthkerry Viaduct.

“Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries into the circumstances leading up to their death are ongoing.”
