Set in a dystopian future where music is banned, the show follows a band of rebels fighting to revive rock and roll.
Peter Knowles, chairman of PODS, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing We Will Rock You to Penarth.
“Queen’s music has been such a huge part of so many people’s lives, myself included.
“I remember listening to their songs as a teenager in the 1970s, and I vividly recall their legendary 20-minute performance at Live Aid in 1985 – it was simply unforgettable.
“To now be staging this incredible musical with PODS is something really special.”
The story centres around characters Galileo and Scaramouche, who team up with the Bohemians to take on the powerful Globalsoft Corporation and its leader, the Killer Queen.
The show is packed with iconic Queen hits including Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody to Love, Don’t Stop Me Now, Another One Bites the Dust, and the title track We Will Rock You.
PODS is among the first community theatre groups in the UK to stage the musical, as performance rights were only recently made available to amateur companies.
The Penarth run will also mark the show’s 24th anniversary.
Directed by Fiona Porter-Smith, winner of multiple awards and known for previous PODS productions such as The Full Monty, Chess, and The Producers, the cast features a talented lineup guided by an experienced creative team.
Musical direction comes from Ben Davies, who recently earned a Best Musical Director award for Shrek.
Set and costume design are in the hands of BAFTA-winning designer Andy Bradshaw.
We Will Rock You runs at the Paget Rooms from May 13 to 16, with evening performances at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2pm.
