Food businesses across Wales are preparing for the inaugural Rarebit Fortnight, a campaign to “transform the nation’s relationship with food from the ground up”. It’s aiming to raise money for Cegin Y Bobl (Welsh for The People’s Kitchen), a charity which strives to bolster the next generation’s cooking abilities.

Taking place for two weeks from Sat 21 Feb, thus incorporating St. David’s Day, participating restaurants and cafés will be featuring traditional and creative forms of Welsh rarebit on their menus, with a portion of the sales from these dishes going directly to the charity.

Delights set to be offered include Asador 44’s leek and Galmesán cheese rarebit gratin with chorizo crumb, a smoked pollack rarebit tart from Ogof, and Welsh onion soup with Welsh rarebit croute at The Shed.

With the money raised during Rarebit Fortnight, Cegin Y Bobl will be further supported in their mission to help people gain fundamental cooking skills that help create nutritious and enjoyable meals. The charity has thus far trained over 1,000 people in Carmarthenshire and served over 3,000 meals, at this time having expanded to working across five Welsh counties, engaging adults and children alike in their mission.
