Front Room in Barry has become a part of the town’s waterfront revival since opening in May 2024.
Located inside The Pumphouse on Hood Road, it forms part of the regenerated Barry waterfront district, just a short stroll from the docks and Goodsheds.
Front Room describes itself as “café – bar – pizza”, serving food from breakfast through to dinner.
The relaxed venue offers everything from coffee and brunch to cocktails and late-night slices.
Housed in a former industrial building, Front Room features a blend of exposed brick, a huge central pizza oven, and an open bar, creating a space reviewers have described as “light and airy” and “very classy.”
Despite its style, the venue maintains a casual, welcoming feel.
The menu centres around its “no rules pizza” concept, using Wildfarmed flour and inventive toppings instead of sticking to the traditional Neapolitan style.
The signature Front Room pizza features nduja, pepperoni, salami, roasted red peppers, and hot honey, while the “Proper Ronnie” double‑pepperoni, Persian Lamb, BBQ Beef, and “Forbidden Fruit” with molasses‑roasted pineapple and bacon have all earned glowing praise.
One reviewer called it: “the best pizza around, hands down.”
Front Room’s atmosphere is regularly highlighted by customers as a major part of its appeal, with a large outdoor area featuring deckchairs and pods, a cosy private space downstairs, and music indoors.
Staff are described as “friendly,” “attentive,” and “passionate about their restaurant and the food they produce.”
Another diner said “could not have been more helpful and friendly.”
The venue is dog-friendly, openly welcoming “dogs and well-behaved people.”
While meat features prominently on the menu, Front Room is also popular with vegan diners.
The restaurant offers vegan cheese and most pizzas can be customised to be fully plant-based on request.
Hours are friendly for both early risers and night owls, with the restaurant open from Wednesday to Saturday between 9am and 9pm or 11pm, and until 9pm on Sundays.
Front Room is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
