Restaurant fundraiser to help Nepalese flood victims

by David Jones

Base Camp Kitchen in Park Place will host Stand With Nepal, an afternoon of food, culture and fundraising, on Sunday, October 25.

Mr Sapkota organised the event after managing Mint and Mustard in Penarth before joining Base Camp Kitchen.

Mr Sapkota said: “Many families are facing unimaginable loss, hardship and uncertainty. We wanted to bring people together to support those affected and show that our community stands with Nepal.”

Guests will receive drinks, canapés, a Himalayan buffet of Nepalese and Indian dishes, and dessert. Tickets cost £40, with proceeds helping flood victims.

The fundraiser continues Base Camp Kitchen’s record of supporting charitable causes. Since opening its doors, the restaurant has become known for showcasing Himalayan and Indian cuisine and for community fundraising.

Last year, the restaurant celebrated its first anniversary after establishing itself as a destination for diners seeking Nepalese and Indian flavours. It has also hosted fundraising events that attracted support from customers and businesses across south Wales.

Mr Sapkota hopes the appeal will once again show the region’s generosity.

The event will be held at Base Camp Kitchen, 29 Park Place, with doors opening at 12.30pm.

Organisers say the afternoon will do more than raise money, bringing people together to stand with flood victims.

Organisers are urging people to book early, hoping a strong turnout will help Nepalese communities recover and rebuild.

Every ticket will help Nepalese families and show local support for them.

Nepalese authorities said 977 people remained unaccounted for and more than 3,000 had been rescued, while the reported death toll had reached 547.

The floods also destroyed bridges and damaged nearly 25 miles of roads, complicating search and rescue efforts.
