Significant train disruption expected this week in Cardiff and Swansea

Transport For Wales has announced the services which will be affected

National Rail is warning those who travel by train of disruption this week as works take place. Engineering work is taking place in the Cardiff Central area, closing some lines overnight from Monday evening until Friday morning.

Transport for Wales routes between Cardiff Central and Aberdare / Swansea / Milford Haven / Fishguard Harbour are affected.

The following trains will be diverted to run via Barry, extending journey times by up to 25 minutes:

  • The 20:36 Milford Haven to Cardiff Central service
  • The 21:46 Fishguard Harbour to Cardiff Central service
  • The 23:21 Cardiff Central to Swansea service

National Rail adds that additionally, the 22:51 Aberdare to Cardiff Central service will not run via Fairwater. Never miss a Cardiff story by signing up to our daily newsletter here.

A replacement bus, connecting with the train, will run from Radyr to Cardiff Central calling at stations via Fairwater.

Engineering work is also taking place in the Carmarthen/Swansea area, closing various lines overnight from Monday evening until Friday morning.

Transport for Wales services between Carmarthen and Swansea/Cardiff Central are affected.

The disruption from Monday to Thursday:

  • The 21:46 Fishguard Harbour to Cardiff Central will be diverted to run on an alternative route between Llanelli and Port Talbot Parkway, not calling at stations via Swansea. A replacement bus will run from Llanelli to Port Talbot Parkway.
  • The 23:20 Cardiff Central to Carmarthen will terminate at Llanelli. A replacement bus will run from Llanelli to Carmarthen.
  • The 23:48 Swansea to Carmarthen will not run and will be replaced by a bus.

How it will look from Tuesday to Friday:

  • The 04:38 Carmarthen to Swansea will not run, and will be replaced by a bus.
  • The 05:13 Swansea to Llandovery will start from Llanelli at 05:28, with an earlier rail replacement bus running from Swansea to Llanelli, connecting with the train.
