Tesco drivers told of £60 spend rule with deadline on Sunday

Three days left to get the key coupon as motorists struggle with high prices caused by Iran war

A three-day deadline has been confirmed for Tesco customers to take advantage of a deal that could knock £8 off a tank of fuel. Motorists have until Sunday, October 18 to make the most of the new promotion.

The retail giant, which operates around 600 petrol stations across the UK, has launched an offer giving customers 8p off per litre of fuel.

Prices have surged in recent months owing to turmoil in global markets triggered by the US-Israeli conflict with Iran and Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. Government ministers have moved to reassure the public amid mounting concerns over supply, as prices reached £2 a litre for the very first time.

The previous record high stood at 199.09p, set in June 2022 in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Tesco’s promotion will offer drivers some welcome relief, although there is a maximum saving of £8 per tank.

Customers who spend £60 or more in-store at Tesco by Sunday October 18 will receive a coupon with their receipt, entitling them to 8p off per litre of petrol or diesel at a Tesco filling station.

Shoppers will then have until Sunday October 25 to redeem their fuel coupon by scanning it at the petrol station till. This means fuel must be paid for in person at the counter, so the voucher cannot be used at pay-at-pump facilities, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The maximum discount on offer is £8, which is £2 less than when this promotion last ran in August. Given that the average motorist fills up between 35 and 45 litres of fuel, most drivers can expect to save somewhere in the region of £2.80 to £3.60.

Use Tesco’s store finder to locate a Tesco Petrol Filling Station and confirm that a staffed kiosk will be open during your visit. This offer excludes the Isle of Man, Tesco Express stores where Esso fuel is sold, unmanned petrol stations, and pay-at-pump services.

Only one coupon may be used per transaction, and you must spend more than £1 on fuel.

The coupon can be redeemed at participating Tesco-branded forecourts across Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Tesco Express stores selling Esso fuel and sites on the Isle of Man are excluded, meaning a Tesco store situated adjacent to a forecourt does not automatically guarantee the coupon will be accepted.

Use Tesco’s store finder to look for a Tesco Petrol Filling Station and check that a staffed kiosk will be open when you visit.

The £60 minimum spend at Tesco excludes: lottery products, e-top up, savings stamps, postage stamps, carrier bags, prescription medicines, infant milk formula, and purchases made at any café, tobacco kiosk, opticians, phone store, concessions, Travel Money, Tesco Bank, and Tesco Whoosh. Bear in mind that even with this deal, Tesco may not necessarily offer the cheapest fuel prices in your local area.

What counts towards the £60 Tesco spend?

The offer is for qualifying in-store purchases, so a Tesco home delivery, Click & Collect order placed online or Whoosh order won’t earn the fuel coupon. Some products and purchases at separate counters are also excluded. That matters most when you’re close to £60, because the total on your receipt and the amount that qualifies for the offer might be different. Type of purchase
