The Vale will see temperatures reach 21 degrees this week

by martyn jones

A dreary and damp weekend didn’t bring a lot of promise to a hopefully warm bank holiday weekend but temperatures will begin to heat up from Monday. The start of the week will see a cloudy morning before the sun breaks through, heating The Vale to a balmy 15 degrees.

Tuesday will bring the first real change in the weather, with sun beaming from the start of the day and little chance of cloud or drizzle. It will be a dry day, though partly breezy. Temperatures will reach an impressive 20 degrees in Barry and Penarth – as hot as Barcelona.

Wednesday will bring the sunshine one again with a high of 21 degrees and the same clear skies and lack of cloud. There is little chance of rain to spoil the fun before the end of half term.

Thursday will resume the usual weather forecast for this time of year, with cloud cover and a chance of showers returning. The temperatures will fall dramatically to 12 degrees – a little more ‘normal’ for this time of year – with the rest of the week following the same formula.

Whilst it may only be for a brief while, those venturing out should ensure that they stay safe in the sun.

During periods of high temperature, the Met Office recommends that residents stay hydrated, use sunscreen (even if it appears cloudy), to limit physical activity, and to check on neighbours, friends or relatives that may be at risk.

This may be the excuse many needed to break out the shorts, as this bout of sunshine signals the long-awaited start of spring.
