The Waverley paddle steamer to visit South Wales on tour

The Waverley has set sail from Glasgow to begin its 2026 season, marking 80 years since its launch on the River Clyde in 1946.

The Clyde-built vessel will tour the UK coast this year, including destinations in South Wales and North Wales, as well as the Clyde Coast, Inner Hebrides, South Cornwall, South Devon, the South Coast and Isle of Wight, the Mersey, and the Thames Estuary.

Paul Semple, general manager of Waverley Excursions, said: “Today marks the beginning of a very special season for Waverley as she returns to service celebrating 80 years since her launch.

“Eight decades on, passengers can still experience the unique sights, sounds and atmosphere of travelling aboard a real steamship and we are delighted to see Waverley back sailing after a winter refit which saw a £1.5 million investment in the ship.”

The Waverley will visit the Bristol Channel and South West Wales from May 26 to June 17, followed by North Wales and the Mersey from June 19 to 22.

Other touring locations include Oban and the Inner Hebrides, South Cornwall and South Devon, Northern Ireland, and the Clyde.

Onboard, passengers can step back in time and enjoy the full steamship experience, including the sound of the telegraph, a visit to the engine room, and views of the paddles turning through the portholes.

The ship offers full catering on all cruises, with options including hot or cold snacks, afternoon tea and cake, hot meals in the dining saloon, and refreshments in the period lounges.

There is also a souvenir shop for passengers to purchase exclusive gifts and memorabilia from their journey.

Tickets are now available through waverleyexcursions.co.uk or by calling the booking office on 0141 243 2224.
