Thief stole e-bike from Greggs in Penarth and cash from car

Johnathan Newbury, 34, of no fixed abode, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court charged with theft of a pedal cycle and theft from a vehicle.

Newbury was alleged to have stolen a Cannondale electric bicycle from Greggs on Windsor Road in Penarth on September 9, 2024.

The e-bike was valued at £3,200, the court heard.

The defendant was also accused of stealing £800 from a vehicle in Cardiff on July 14, 2024.

Newbury, who is currently a serving prisoner, pleaded guilty to both offences at a previous hearing on October 9 last year.

The case returned to court on March 23 and Newbury was sentenced to three months imprisonment. This will run consecutively to the sentence he is already serving.
