Prices have risen significantly over the past week
The price of petrol and diesel in the UK has risen significantly amidst the war in the Middle East. The current conflict in the Middle East has caused the increase of pump prices since it began on February 28.
Whilst the UK Government has said that it is “too soon to say” how fuel prices will be affected by the conflict and that “changes in crude oil price tend to feed through gradually over the course of a number of weeks”, RAC has recorded increases in pump prices since outbreak of the US-Iran conflict.
From Saturday, February 28 until Sunday, March 8 the price of diesel has risen on average in the UK by 8.59p per litre whilst petrol has risen by 4.68p per litre, and is forecast to continue rising according to RAC.
The insurance company monitor pump prices from different retailers in the UK including four big supermarkets Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, updating the price daily.
Across the UK today – Monday, March 9 – the average cost of unleaded is 137.51p per litre and diesel costs 150.97p per litre. For money-saving tips, sign up to our Money newsletter here
