Cardiff University and Cardiff and Vale College have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Deeptech Academy, a flagship project designed to strengthen the region’s reputation in advanced manufacturing, cyber and aerospace engineering, cyber technologies, and the creative industries.
Professor Wendy Larner, president and vice-chancellor of Cardiff University, said: “We are incredibly proud to be part of this initiative with Cardiff and Vale College.
“It reflects our shared commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive, resilient, and future-ready talent pool to drive forward the South-East Wales economy.
“We are creating opportunities for learners and businesses alike and strengthening our region’s ability to compete on the global stage.”
The collaboration will combine the academic strengths of Cardiff University with the technical training expertise of Cardiff and Vale College, offering learners a seamless pathway from education into employment.
The academy aims to support the economic growth ambitions of South-East Wales by developing a robust pipeline of talent for high-growth sectors and attracting inward investment.

Following the agreement, both institutions will begin work to mobilise the academy, prioritising inclusive co-creation and collaboration.
