Andrew RT Davies, the Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend, is demanding an increase in train frequency on the Vale of Glamorgan line, which connects Barry, Rhoose, Llantwit Major and Bridgend. Currently, only one train runs per hour in each direction.
The previous Welsh Government had pledged to introduce half-hourly services by the end of the year, but this timeline is now in doubt.
Mr Davies said: “Senedd ministers previously confirmed the service frequency would start to increase on the Vale of Glamorgan line by the end of the year.
“It’s concerning the new Plaid Cymru separatist administration has not kept to that timeframe.”
In a recent written response, Plaid Cymru’s new Deputy Minister for Transport, Mark Hooper, said Transport for Wales (TfW) planned to begin increasing services during peak times, with a full uplift expected next year.
Mr Davies said the line had not received the same investment as other parts of the network.
He said: “While other areas of the Valley Lines network have seen significant investment in rail infrastructure, the Vale of Glamorgan line has been left behind.
“Residents of Rhoose and Llantwit Major deserve more than one train an hour.
“We need far more urgency from Senedd ministers. It’s time to make it happen.”
A spokesman for the Welsh Government said: “We recognise the need to increase the frequency of rail services on the Vale of Glamorgan line.
“Transport for Wales and Network Rail are working together to identify and resolve the infrastructure improvements required on the line to enable more services to be run once the new trains are in place.”
A spokesman for TfW said: “TfW remain committed to enhancing service frequency on the Vale of Glamorgan line and are progressing plans to deliver this improvement.”
