Vale services celebrated at Bro Radio Community Awards

by David Jones

Penarth Pier Pavilion was named winner of the Heritage, Arts and Culture Award at the Bro Radio Community Awards, which celebrate achievements across the Vale of Glamorgan.

The award praised the Pavilion’s impact in promoting arts, heritage and cultural life in the area.

Leah Staff, cultural venue co-ordinator, accepted the award at the ceremony.

Councillor Rhiannon Birch, Vale of Glamorgan Council’s cabinet member for education, arts and the Welsh language, said: “It is wonderful to see so many people and projects from across the Vale recognised at these awards.

“Behind every nomination and every award is a story of care, compassion and a genuine commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

“Penarth Pier Pavilion has become a much-loved part of our community, bringing people together through arts, culture and heritage, and this award is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved.”

Other Vale organisations recognised on the night included the Survivor Photography Project by Vale Domestic Abuse Service, which was nominated in the Triumph Over Adversity category for its exhibition at Art Central Gallery.

The project uses photography and creative expression to tell the stories of survivors.

Stacey Long, Post-16 Transition Lead at Ysgol y Deri, was named Entrepreneur of the Year for helping to establish the Hubbub Shop in Penarth.

The retail initiative gives students practical work experience while developing essential life skills.

Cllr Birch said: “It was also inspiring to see the Survivor Photography Project recognised for giving survivors a powerful platform to share their experiences, and to celebrate Stacey Long’s achievement in creating opportunities that help young people build confidence and develop important life skills.”

The Bro Radio Community Awards honour individuals, organisations, and groups making a positive impact across business, sport, education and the third sector.
