Vale Veterinary Centre Barry Cardiff and Newport closed down

by David Jones

Vale Veterinary Centre confirmed it ceased trading as of July 27, with branches in Barry, Newport and Cardiff now permanently closed and all future appointments cancelled.

The company informed clients of the closure through a public statement. The statement said: “Unfortunately as of 27th July 2026, Vale Veterinary Centre has now ceased trading as a veterinary practice.

“All future appointments are cancelled. We can send patient histories to local practices on request.”

The practice later clarified that phone lines in Barry and Newport would be unavailable from July 30.

The full statement continued: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful clients who have become family over the years.”

Affected branches include its Barry site at Ty Verlon Industrial Estate, Newport on East Market Street, and Pontcanna in Cardiff. The Barry location had already been closed since July 13 for a planned period prior to the wider announcement.

The news has been met with disappointment from pet owners, many of whom praised the team for their service and support.

Vale Veterinary Centre had long been a trusted part of the community, providing care for animals through routine appointments, treatments and emergencies.

Clients who need their pets’ records transferred to a new practice have been advised to contact Vale Veterinary Centre directly.

The company said it would send patient histories to other veterinary providers upon request.

The wider shutdown came as a surprise to many clients.

The Cardiff line remained in use until 6pm on Friday, July 31. The company has said that clients may continue to contact them by email.

Vale Veterinary Centre has not given details about the reasons for the closure. In the wake of the announcement, local veterinary surgeries in the Vale and across Cardiff have reported a surge in calls from former Vale clients seeking urgent appointments and advice on transferring ongoing treatments.
