Nigel Farage has staged a press event on the steps of the Senedd to announce the new leader of Reform UK in Wales. Helen Jenner will replace Dan Thomas as the leader of the opposition in Wales’ Parliament.
Ms Jenner is a former teacher, a Welsh speaker and mother of two who represents Bangor Conwy Mon in the Senedd.
Dan Thomas, who had been selected by Nigel Farage to be the leader in Wales, resigned as Reform UK’s leader in Wales last week, citing “personal reasons”. Gwent Police said Thomas, 45, had been arrested on suspicion of assault and coercive control.
Speaking at the Senedd, Mr Farage said: “We will carry on like nothing has happened. We could have done without this bump in the road but we’re making the best of it.” Follow our live updates here.
