That’s how the two came to be ours in the first place. They turned up and stayed for 14 years.
About three years ago a black cat appeared and decided to make his home with us. Well, we were more like a bed and breakfast to him. He would stay the night, have his breakfast then off he would go. He didn’t seem to have an owner and made himself very much at home.
It is said that cats choose their owners and we hadn’t seen him for three weeks and had given up hope of seeing him again when he walked in as if he had never been away. We were so pleased to see him; gave him a warm welcome. Whenever he decides to go on one of his jaunts, we never know when he will turn up but he can tell from our reaction how pleased we are to see him.
We are reminded in the New Testament story of The Prodigal Son, the younger son had squandered all his money and did not feel that he could not go home to his father but, unknown to him, his father was looking out for him every day hoping that he would return.
When the father saw the son return, he ran to greet him, this was unaccustomed in Biblical times, but he was so overjoyed to see him. The son thinking that his father would be angry with him for squandering his money threw a party for him, killed the fatted calf and put a ring on his finger.
Whenever we walk away from God, He patiently awaits our return and welcomes us with open arms. He is such a loving, forgiving God, and just like the father in the story of the prodigal son He rejoices when we turn or return to Him.
The son had his inheritance and thought his life was made. It came to a time when all the money ran out but what hadn’t ran out was the father’s love for his son and so it is with God. His love is unfailing. He loves us with an everlasting love and a love that will neither fade nor end.
