Young darts players from Vale of Glamorgan become coaches

Six senior members of the Cogan Coronation Junior Darts Corporation (JDC) Academy visited Pencoedtre High School in Barry to lead a sports session for Year 7 and 8 pupils.

Their visit formed part of the school’s “Food & Fun” summer programme, which combines physical activity, enrichment, and healthy meals during the holidays.

The young players – Archie, Dylan, Drew, Jack, Theo, and Evan – were joined by coaches Kate, Russ, and Andrew.

Kate Pridham, academy director, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to give back to our local community and introduce new children to a sport we are all so passionate about.

“Darts is brilliant for young people – it’s inclusive, active, and sneaks in plenty of mental maths practice.

“We are exceptionally proud of our academy players.

“They represented us with total excellence, stepping naturally into mentoring roles and acting as fantastic role models for the younger pupils.”

The pupils took part in target games and learned the basics of darts under the guidance of the young mentors.

The volunteers were treated to a lunch afterwards in recognition of their efforts.

The Cogan Coronation JDC Academy offers structured darts coaching to young people across Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan.
